Annie Gist
Alto Saxophone Soloist
Annie was born in Seattle, grew up on Puyallup, and moved to Bonney Lake when she was in 3rd grade. She is the youngest of three girls, her older sister a published author and the other a teacher in Mercer Island.
She started playing the flute in 5th grade and switched to alto and baritone saxophone in 9th grade. Over the years, she also learned to play clarinet, trumpet, piccolo, trombone, and tenor sax. She has also “tinkered” with piano and guitar, but feels her hands are too small for those instruments.
Annie studied music at Pierce College and then graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Digital Technology with an emphasis in Multimedia Rhetorics. In 2009, she studied business and music at Portland State University for a year.
Annie has played with many groups over the years. At White River High School, she played in the Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble. In college, she played in concert and jazz bands at Pierce College, WSU and PSU. She has also played in the Beaverton Community Band and played with our band while she was in high school from 2001 until 2005, and then returned to our group when she moved back into the area in 2021. Besides our band, she is currently playing in the “Untitled Jazz Project” and the Woodland Way Jazz Quartet.
Annie works at Edward Jones as a Registered Branch Associate. She lives in Buckley with her husband, Ben, and two cats, Bangle and Junior. They are currently working on fixing up their house.
